I thought my flight was to Florida?

OK, so I'm in Miami Beach on vacation. I'm not here to brag about the amazing weather (I heard it was cold in Baltimore...) or to tell you about the ridiculous accomodations. Also, I'm not going to blog daily as I did when we were in Israel.

But, upon walking on the boardwalk this evening, I walked by about 100 people - of which I counted 6 that were not Chassidim. Apparently I flew into Mea Shearim, not Ft. Lauderdale. And apparently the offical language of the boardwalk is Yiddish, not English (or Spanish). Yikes.

My understanding is that many of the yeshivas have vacation now. They intentionally offset their vacation from the usual end of December cycle so as to make sure there is no overlap with secular holidays.

Which is insanely stupid since many people already have days off from work during the holiday season, so it's much harder to take a week off in the middle of January. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Why would you choose to go to Miami in January? Did you not know that the Chassidim invade? I go on vacation to get away from the Jews.

Coming back Tuesday afternoon. If Dani's really freaking out let me know I can get my sister-in-law to deliver him.

SaraK - see, this is information that would've been useful BEFORE our trip. If you know me at all you'd know that I'm the same way...more to follow...

Well, since you didn't tell me where you were going...

I went to Miami last year in December, for the first time. (I usually go to St. Petersburg, FL [west coast] to visit my Bubby - hardly any frum Jews there!) I went 2 weeks before Christmas, there were hardly any Jews there yet, it was snowing in Baltimore and STUNNING in Miami. That is the only time of year I would go back. The boardwalk was practically empty, but I did see enough Chassidim to imagine what it is like down there during the busy season.
